my thread here

in the continuing comedy of errors that is my body, my thumb hurts. this isn't even the thumb on the same hand as the other injury, so i guess i've been overcompensating. i've been resting and icing it all day and am hoping it will settle down on its own... i really don't want to deal with more hand pain than i've already got.

thanksgiving was nice; i got to see some family i hadn't seen in a long while, so it was good to catch up. (also i had some excellent pumpkin cheesecake.) other than that, there hasn't been a lot going on in irl news.

this week's ff14 update is that i'm pretty much done farming mogtomes aside from weeklies, so it's been back to the diadem. i am nearly done grade 3 botany, at which point it will be on to grade 3 mining. then i'm home free. (i am not even remotely home free; i still have 200k+ points to get in both botanist and miner.) other than that i've been working on the crafting portion of the ishgard restoration grind; i really should be working on the moon crafts as well but i haven't caught a lot of weather windows for it lately.

in reading news, i did not end up continuing the trilogy i was struggling with. instead i read a quick, lighthearted sci-fi romp, and have since started a space opera, bethany jacobs's kindom trilogy. i'm only halfway through the first book, but if it sticks the landing it's definitely going to be a favorite: excellent writing, characters, and plotting in a genuinely fascinating worldbuild. the characters are really what's selling it more than anything; one of the leads is refreshingly unlikeable and makes for a great character to follow.

that's about it for now. i really hope my body chills out in the coming weeks, because i am so over all this pain...

So the scheduled posting portion of WIPBB/WIPRB posting is now over! Thank you so much to everyone who has posted so far; we've had a lot of great fic and artwork and I for one have been truly dazzled by all the stuff posted.

If you opted for a December date (either originally or rescheduling during the posting period), you will hae until whenever I wake up on January 1st to either post your fic/art or email us at wipbigbang@gmail.com to drop out. I will be posting the info about the mini bang around midnight and then fingers crossed I will actually go to sleep before the sun comes up, and then I will post anything still waiting to be posted when I wake up and then posting will officially be over. Within the next week or two I will post the 2025 masterlist as well as both the 2024 Big Bang masterlist and the 2025 Mini Bang masterlist (both of which I started to compile but lost access to the files and just got access back this week).

If you had a posting date in September/October/November and didn't email us about rescheduling for December, you are still more than welcome to post in December as well! We had a lot of people who claimed dates who didn't post or alert us, so you still have time to post before you get banned for not posting. Post at any point in December by posting your Bragging Rights (found at https://wipbigbang.dreamwidth.org/210584.html) to the Tumblr (either by submitting them or tagging our blog in your post) or Dreamwidth. You must include the Bragging rights in the template or I won't reblog your post.

I will also go through the posting date claims form to see who signed up and didn't post or drop out in time. I will alert participants who are banned from being WIPBB authors/WIPRB artists for the 2026 round via the mod email, and will kee a list of emails to cross-check against the 2026 sign-ups. If you are banned and you submit a sign-up, your sign-up will be deleted and you will be reminded of your ban. Sign up again after the reminder and I will ban you from participating as a WIPBB artist/WIPRB author in the 2026 round as well.

Summary:
Someone had tried to kill Nick Fury, and Steve’s lucky he was there to prevent it, because that’s how he learned the first of the two most important things in his life.

The ghost story that everyone knows as the Winter Soldier? Turns out, it’s Bucky.

When Steve demands to be assigned to the Winter Soldier case, Fury indulges him. After all, who’d be better at catching a super soldier than another super soldier, right? Steve is good at pulling off stuff nobody else can.

Stuff like restoring Bucky’s memory. Because during one of their encounters, the Winter Soldier puts his finger in Steve’s mouth, and Steve learns the second most important thing in his life.

While Bucky’s mind might not remember him, Bucky’s body certainly does.

Caused by the shimmer of reflected light over heated air, a mirage can be a dangerous thing in the desert, where it might trick unwary travelers into thinking they’re not so far from water. It can be beautiful – a little ripple of light in the distance, like sunlight dancing on water – but no matter how hard you try, you’ll never get close enough.

Project Title: Untitled Bucky/Zemo Fic
Fandom: MCU
Warnings: N/A
Bragging Rights: Unfortunately my author had to pull out of the Bang, but I was able to make this art for their fic. The story took place in 1700s France. A pivotal section of the story takes place at a masquerade ball thus all the costume and mask imagery chosen for the moodboard. I am very proud of the manips I did for Bucky and Zemo, I couldn't do much about the modern hairstyles, but was very happy with how I was able to make them both look like they were in more historical dress.

early post since i woke up at 430am and couldn't go back to sleep...

anyway, not much to talk about this week. since i'm in a holding pattern with regard to the hand injury, i've been trying to keep busy with other stuff. this week mogtomes started in ff14, and i have farmed... over a thousand. i don't know how this happened either. at this point i'm probably 80% done with mogtome farming, i just need a few more across my alts to get what i want for them.

since i was occupied with mogtomes i didn't make much progress in the diadem this week, but i'll probably do more of that in the coming week when i find some time. i do have some family stuff this week since it's thanksgiving, but i don't have to travel thankfully so it shouldn't be too taxing.

i haven't made much reading progress; i've been really unenthused with the book i'm reading. i'm going to try and finish it, but i might not move on to the third book in this trilogy... i hate to leave a series unfinished but i'm just not vibing with it. a real shame since i loved a lot of the ideas in the first book.

as we approach the end of the year i'm increasingly aware of the fact that i haven't achieved a whole lot in the way of my creative goals for the year. a lot of this is website stuff; i really wanted to make more progress on my sites and i've just not been doing it. perhaps i'll rally in the coming weeks and get something done, but... we'll see. i've still been writing consistently, but i've just been writing self-indulgent nonsense instead of anything with meat, so i'm not sure that really counts...

admittedly i've had a pretty miserable year in terms of health, but even so i'd like to spend less time mindlessly puttering around in ff14 and more time creating. the puttering has been good when i haven't been feeling well, but sometimes it's too much...
